While in Denali National Park we met a very nice Canadian couple. We exchanged travel plans and told them our potential route east to Jasper. After they realized where we were headed they said two things: don't miss Muncho Lake and be sure to visit Liard Hot Springs...
After spending the night in an old bandit camp next to the Liard River we pulled into the hot springs around 9AM. We made a heart breakfast and then journeyed over the boardwalk to the spring itself.
This is no ordinary backwoods Oregon hot spring my friends. This place was decked out. Changing rooms, pools with varying temperatures, waterfalls, stairs, no naked hippies, cubby holes to keep your things. It was astounding. After the initial shock had worn off we soaked in the warm thermal pools for the better part of an hour, made a few photographs, and packed up just as it was starting to get crowded.
If you ever find yourself on the Liard River in British Columbia do yourself a favor and come to the Liard Hot Springs, but come early and bring a towel.
